Install Ubantu Linux on your old laptop and you don't need to buy a new computer. I did that to an old Windows laptop and it worked like it was brand new.
I have all kinds of computers, Windows PCs 3, Apple Mac Book Pro, iPad, iPod touch, Android smartphone. If you need to do everything only a Windows PC is easy to do it all. But if you are going to mostly consume internet videos, you tube, a bit of emails, a tablet can work for you. I type well and bought a wireless keyboard for both my iPad and Android phone. What a waster of money. If you want to type easily get a laptop. BUT for RVing I LOVE a few tab apps. Like Allstays, Campwhere, any map based app. I find if much much easier to manipulate a map on a tablet.
So put Linus in your old computer to revive it and buy a tablet. I have had an iPad for about 2 1/2 years now and I think Apple makes a beautiful jewell like product. It also works really good too. My daughter has a little Nexus 7 small tablet that only cost 225 bucks. Really a nice little thing. You could try one of those. I am about ready to upgrade my tablet. I am going to sell my iPad 2 on ebay and buy a new iPad. I really love the Apple hardware. Their iTunes app on the iPad is great too.
