I tried many of the browsers mentioned in the articles and FINALLY found one worked like a charm. Opera's version 36 is still available on their website as a special download for Windows XP and Vista users. It works fine.
I truly agree that Windows XP is dead and burried, but I just didn't feel good donating something that couldn't be used for reasonable internet access.
