You do not need an activated account to find the DirecTV sat 101.
No they don't. But what is the sense of finding signal if the box is not going to work.
B band converter?
I have same box and it is not needed.
Call the Tech. support for Dish and they will walk you through the set up steps and they can run tests from their office or call Dish and have send a tech out to set the system up for the 1st time.
I would not call Direct Tv. I think that they would be opening a can of worms.
When calling to activate it, they should tell them it is another box for sisters house, which will cost them $7 a month, otherwise it will be another account costing at the minimum $50 or more monthly.
Some may think that this is dishonest but until DTV becomes a little more, can't quite think of what word would fit here, I have no problems with it as long as it is used in the RV.
I use the bubble level like they have, signal meter, and leave tv inside. Don't know what their trailer is but I use the cable terminal connection on mine and not a problem.
With a clear sky you can find...
...find the DirecTV sat 101. Using a good compass aim it at 220 degrees and 30 degrees up. You should be able to use the signal meter in the setup of your receiver to find and peak the signal. For HD you have to set the tilt.
And if you have someone inside try tilt. If no one inside then it will be easier to have the tv outside.
It would be much easier if a mast was found that had the latitude, altitude, and tilt makers on it.
