Did you get the receiver from a local DTV retailer? If so, I would contact them for assistance.
If not, what kind of signal readings are you getting when you point the dish? I didn't see a post where you mentioned that. (Sorry if I missed it.)
Do you have the right LNB for your receiver? I've seen people purchase used dishes and aftermarket dishes with the wrong LNB for their receiver.
Finally, take as many variables out of the equation as possible. You took a step in the right direction by bypassing the trailer's inputs and outputs.
