CB v/s Ham v/s Cell is bad thinking.. Wrong question..
The problem: Murphy says if you break down it will be in the middle of "how did I get here" and if you rely on one of the above.. You are screwed son.
I have been to places where my Cell phones made good paperweights,, Two different carriers and neither worked.
My CB, likewise was not in the mood to chat with anyone.
Was about to break out the ham gear and set up the HF antenna when a kind citizen stopped and relayed a message to his buddy with the tow truck.
Ham Radio, epically HF, is your most reliable, I'd rate it even over a Sat Phone,, But,, I run, with the exception of a Sat phone (And I did that too at one time) all of the above. I believe in the power of communications.
Cell: for business and other personal calls such as Daughter or Girlfriend.
CB: for "There is a fatal accident 3.5 miles ahead, Take the exit 0.5 miles ahead and park for the evening and avoid the crush (Traffic Jam) which is exactly what I did by the way.
Ham for.. General chat with friends all over the country (Voice) or World (Digital) oh, Santa net is on this time of year, Yup, we hams get to talk to Santa up north (3916 KHZ I think 8: 30 Eastern but I might be an hour late)
The Sat Phone I had (in my sig) was Hughes 2-way Satellite Internet and SKYPE, Only used it once when Skype had Free calling.. It worked.
