Depends what you mean by northern Manitoba. Mts has best coverage, and it is mostly 4g hope. There is still cdma but it is in isolated areas.
Both cover areas around major highways, but mts does better in Cranberry Portage to Thompson and adjacent communities. There are areas of no service on that Highway.
Getting away from the highways there is some service in isolated communities. Mts also has service on Nelson River where the dams are.
Used to carry phones that were dual compliant but there is less need unless you know you will be in an area that needs it.
Map out where you want to travel and what carrier. If rogers, and you are in certain areas you may want a pay as you go on mts. Not sure about roaming with a sasktel phone. Used to be on mts, but I've been away from there a few years now.
