I live less than 1K feet from a VZW site. Bars typically represent voice connectivity strength, not data. Both operate separately. You can often have four bars yet have a slow data connection. Conversely, you may one or two bars, but receive maximum data speed. Also, line-of-sight is a factor. Eventhough you may have a decent signal, consistent throughput can often be slow or laggy or both.
Up til just recently, my wife worked for Verizon Wireless for 17 years. For a while, her job entailed troubleshooting this stuff. Just like anything else, advertised data speed and actual speed vary by quite a lot, for a number of reasons.
BTW, there have been BIG internal changes going with Verizon. You can expect to see their prices come down in the future. How soon? Who knows. Depends when they finally get done reorganizing, AKA closing depts. and terminating long time employees. While they do have the best network hands down, Verizon is not a word we speak out loud very much around here anymore. Thanks for the write up, Mike.
