Chromecast snafu

Just bought a Chromecast dongle today. I was under the impression I could "cast " video content on my android tablet to my TV. I eventually got the thing set up to where I could view a YOUTUBE video but not any content stored on my tablet. There is a mention of being able to "mirror" my device screen on the TV. But I'm unable. Anyonme done this? HELP, please
  • Add the Chromecast App. Then Menu > Cast Screen

Plus search the Play store for 3rd party apps compatible with Chromecast, there are many....
  • when I start the chromecast app. I get a "DEVICES" screen that lists the chromecasts on my NETGEAR52 network. it lists one -- "chromecast9172" and says "ready to cast". I can find no menu that mentions casting screen.. the choices seem to be :
    devices
    discover apps
    backdrop
    learn
    help and feedback

I'm missing something, but what is it?
  • It's right there in the menu (the three vertical bars):

What version of Android are you running, and I assume your Chromecast is showing in the main screen right?

And no that is not my email address in the image...

To "Cast" from an andriod go to the play store and search for ES File Explorer.. I think you also need a chromecast add on.

It is requirted that your 'droid and dongle both be connected to the same router as I recall less the droid is in Ad-Hoc (Wi-Fi Direct) mode.

NOTE Not all video files will cast.. I have a ton of MP2 files these are Video and in fact I am watching one recorded last night as It type. (Columbo)..It will not cast w/o conversion..

MP4 generally works.. I have not tried other formats. (I am sure several will but I have not tried them).

Again that is ES-FIle explorer, ES-File player and if needed the chrome cast add on.. I do know it works great from my 'Droid.
  • android version 4.2.1 an icon for chromecast is on the main screen
when i select the chromecast icon I get the screen mentioned in my second post above. NO VERTICAL BARS --- no menu just something saying that chromecast is connected to the network and "ready to cast"..
  • to wa8yxm -- I have FX file explorer and just downloaded ES-file explorer they seem to do the same thing . Ive used FX quite a bit to move, copy, rename and play my videos,,, works well. All my video is MP4 guess I need that chromecast addon..
  • I'm starting to think the HDMI cable is a pretty simple solution. This POS Chromecast will be going back to the store and I'll be going back to the cable.
  • Well, how 'bout that ?! ALLCAST was up and working within 3 minutes of starting the down load. BIG "thank you " to sch911 for that info.

I assume that this is using my local network and not gobbling up data on the internet?

I intend to connect these ( tablet and chromecast ) with my router sans internet connection.

    Thanks again SCH911

As I recall I had to download a ChromeCast plug in for ES-File Explorer but I do know it works,,in 15 minutes I'll be using it to view the latest ep of Ham Nation.
