Classic Yahoo Dead and privacy completely gone :(

Well I guess the party is officially over.

While you can delay switching for several weeks, beginning July 9, 2013, you can only access your Yahoo! Mail if you switch to a new version.

July 9 yahoo is making everyone switch to the new yahoo mail which allows them to scan and analyze all our emails.

When you upgrade, you will be accepting our Communications Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. This includes the acceptance of automated content scanning and analyzing of your communications content,

This comment from yahoo is what IMHO, JMHO is the scariest part.

If you don’t want to use the new Yahoo! Mail, you may consider these other options:

Download your Yahoo! Mail using IMAP: IMAP allows you to access your email from a different email program, such as Outlook, Mac Mail, or your mobile device’s application. You can download your data to your personal computer or device using an IMAP program. However, in order to continue using Yahoo! Mail you will need to accept the 'Communications Terms of Service'.

....and the 'terms of service' is agreeing to let them scan and analyze all your content, NOW on your personal computer. :S

For those of us that don't want to buy into this, what email sites are available out there that everyone is switching to that are not scanning your content??

  • Interesting. We have several Yahoo email accounts, but we have not gotten the memo yet.

I know Yahoo has had horrible problems with hackers over the years, especially since we have been victims of spoof mail several times. This is where they hack into your Yahoo account and contact list and send emails to your contacts as if they are actually from you. There is no financial harm done. It is just a PITA to clear up.

I have always used Windows mail, in connection with my internet/cable television provider for my email, but then set the windows email account up to automatically send every email to my Yahoo account as well.

I did this because the cable people kept changing protocols on how to access my email remotely on the road, but they didn't inform you when they made changes. You only found out on the day you could not access your account. And even then you had to call them to get your account sort of unlocked.

Yahoo was easier to use. So I get every email twice.

If Yahoo follows through on their plan, I will just stop using them and switch my duplicate account to gmail.
