Further update.
Yes the 'puter has 2 different drives, not a partition. The last backup was done late June, to the second drive. Dell hardware tests indicate drive C: is failing. I was able to once more boot up in "safe" mode, and have transfered everything I can think of into this 'puter. It's older/slower, but will do until we get back home. I also have an external USB drive at home, that backup was also done before we left.
Lat 2 times I tried to boot up "normally", I got the blue screen message, Windows is protecting the system (or words to that effect) etc.........
Thanks to all, hopefully I'll be able to retrieve all other info on that drive, if it's in fact bad.
