Computer Help

Dell Latitude Laptop, new 2011, Win7 Home Premium.
Problem, will not boot up, gets to the proper background screen, but no icons show, and clicking on start does nothing.
I can start in "safe mode", all programs show up, and seem to run fine??
This computer has 2 hard drives, and the second one, has a "image" copy created by windows.
Questions, What could the boot problem be? What can I do to solve it?
Would I be better off booting, and running from the second drive? If so how do I designate it as "primary"?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
  • If you haven't done anything to change it yourself, I'd turn it on and let it sit unattended for a while.
It's entirely possible that it is auto-updating, which is taking up most of its resources. Once it has finished updating, everything should return to normal.
  • When the computer starts to boot up, if you press f8 (I believe), it will take you to a setup screen. One of the options in the setup allows you to change the boot sequence where you can pick which drive to boot from.
  • I found a lot of google hits on 'dell latitude boot'. That may help.

Usually the designated boot disk is configured in BIOS at startup.
