Depends upon where you get your refurb from. IBM sells refurbs that are returns from leases. When IBM outsources IT for some company, they often supply that company with computer hardware. They also provide equipment for their employees. When the equipment is "refreshed", usually at 2 - 4 years old, the old equipment is returned, inspected, wiped clean, and a new operating system installed. These are the ones sold as refurbished with a 1 year warranty.
These are business grade laptops and desktops. Usually maxed out with memory and with decent sized hard drives, or SSDs in the newer systems. My family and friends have purchased somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 laptops and IIRC 6 desktops. Only had one failure, a broken hinge on a laptop. All the rest were replaced to get faster processors or better displays. The computers are usually Lenovo, HP, or Apple. They sometimes have iPads as well. They do sell monitors.
I would stay away from the ones that failed off the assembly line. HP and Dell also have a similar refurb process to IBM.
