We actually used our at&t dumb (flip) phones when we first signed up with con cell.
When mine gave out, I got the doro flip.
I just transferred that to DH, and I got the smart phone. I decided on the moto g, but that was discontinued. CC replaced it with moto e. So far, it's working out fine. - az99Explorer

That was what I did. Get exactly the phone you want. You are not limited to what CS sells.
Consumer Cellulars says that any phone previously used on AT&T will most likely be usable on their system. You just need to get a sim card from Consumer Cellular.

- harley-daveExplorerMy Wife uses a Samsung while I was brave and tried one of the 6" Huawei phones. Both have been good. The Huawei surprised me as the battery lasts forever it seems, voice quality and ease of use is good also. Its nice having the large screen when we're using it for GPS.
Dave - charlysmom_dadExplorerThanks for all the suggestions. Including ductape & rexlion's suggestion about buying an att phone & using con cell sim card.
- rexlionExplorerKeep in mind that you can buy a ATT-capable phone from any vendor (including ebay) and just move the sim card from your current phone to the new one.
I was fortunate IMO to have gotten an iPhone 3GS refurbished from Consumer Cellular at a nice low price. This was about 2.5 years ago, I think. I've seen them offer new iPhones since then, but for 3 or 4 times as much as what I paid. I have been completely satisfied with my iPhone. It takes a smaller sim card than other brands, but CC will send you one if you want, so don't let that deter you if you want an iPhone from some other source. Just make sure it's an ATT type phone, not Verizon. - rk911Explorer
