Cut TV Cord, How to Get News

If you just need occasional news updates, online using cell data or wifi works well.

If you want to watch shows, it's a lot harder to cut the cord. Cell data gets expensive if you watch more than a few hours per month and wifi is sketchy at most parks for the amount of data needed to download long videos. If you are happy with the over the air shows, that will work but the selection is pretty thin.

We canceled DirectTV years ago, and then canceled DishTV after that. Don't miss it at all ... especially the cost!

Over the air television works fine for us. Our SmartPhones have data plans, Hot Spot ability, and we connect to the internet via the SmartPhone Hot Spot.

Save yourself some money and ditch all the satellite and cable television expense. Really, the programming on television is simply ridiculous anyway. Violence, sex, vulgarity, immorality, crime, dysfunctional families, occult - demonic elements in almost everything (cartoons for kids is the worst), sociopaths, all designed to normalize anything except what is really "normal." Traditional values and wholesome lifestyles are scorned, made fun of, put down, and presented in such a way that anyone who has traditional values is made the fool and the bizarre is the normal.

News? Well? I think it's pretty common knowledge, that there really is NO true 100% unbiased approach to presenting the news. Every news media presents 1% fact and 99% commentary. Somehow, the commentary becomes the facts and the real facts just get lost into oblivion. But, it's always been this way! Since the creation of the first news paper. Everyone looks at things through their own prejudices and pre-conceived, rose-colored glass interpretation of life. News media sources have only 1 REAL purpose, and that is sensationalize and exploit an event so the public will align with that media source, which in the end, results in more revenues (money) for the media stock holders!

So you know, to PAY money to have my home and my mind invaded with all this senseless foolishness is really stupid, when I can get it all free, over the air. (Think about it!)

OK, the FMCA thing sounds interesting. I pull a 5th wheel, but I doubt they care.

OTA not that great here. Don't trust Google news, right up there with the alphabet TVs. Trusting Fox less and less these days. Right now, I read Breitbart, Drudge, Instapundit and Woodpile; compare them all and make up my own mind. Occasionally get a small dose of alphabet TV, as long as I can stand it --- not long.

I cut cable/satellite and Iphone when the bills all started being 'over' $100 a month.

FREE Over the air TV channels.
Using Batwing antenna on the RV.

And a one time investment for an amplified antenna for the house that is the size of a piece of paper and flat as a pancake that attaches to the wall/window. Investment for a good one around 40 bucks at Walmart.

They just added a movie channel. And ION TV just started broadcasting over the air. FREE channels are endless.

The average household can save $5,000+ a year or more switching to over the air TV. That's not chump change. :W

we cut the cord about 6 years ago and bought a TIVO. we can record the few shows we watch. we also got a ROKU to stream netflix and amazon prime.
as far as news we just watch the local stations and occasionally read newspapers online. now that we full time the TIVO is working well for us.

This is certainly the best way IF you are in an area with good OTA reception. We live in a mountainous area where the only OTA channel available is a local PBS station.

There are several network apps for most streaming devices (Roku, Amazon Firestick, Apple TV box, etc.) that allow you to stream live TV.

To use these while on the road, you'll want an unlimited data plan that does not throttle your hotspot at 10GB. There are several affordable solutions. AT&Ts Mobley at $20 a month and now FMCA's BRAND NEW Verizon hot spot deal at $43.99 per month, complete with Verizon's flagship hotspot for free. The Mobley is less expensive but the device is inferior (resulting in slower data) to Verizon's flagship hotspot.

If you are an FMCA member, their deal is SWEET.

You can customize the Google news to feed you areas of interest such as biz or sports or tech, and you can select towns and get feeds from places you are interested in.

I also find some international sources a welcome contrast, such as the South China Morning Post.

There's more news out there than you can consume.

There are news apps for your smart phone. That's what I use.
