Didn't read all the posts...

Years ago, it was difficult to do all my banking via WiFi but it was possible. Naturally, as soon as 'automatic' payments became available, I jumped right on that. Since I'm a full timer, I don't have a lot of recurrent bills anyway but the autopay means I don't have to worry at all.

Unless you're going to be boondocking (keep in mind that some areas in the forests can't get cell phone either), then just do your banking online using RV parks WiFi.

As far as security goes, if you have a strong main password on your computer or tablet, and different passwords on your accounts, bad guys won't bother with you. And if you camp in smaller towns, the odds are even better you won't be hacked.

Ten years ago it was difficult to find RV parks that had good WiFi, now it's unusual to find parks that don't (at least for banking and normal surfing).

And the best part is that it doesn't cost $60/month extra.

x3 - there is no such thing as unlimited data. They call it that and frankly it's a lie. Read the fine print. Usually after you burn through a few gigs they start throttling you down, and there is of course a limit whereby you need to pay when you exceed x- gigs. Not even similar to unlimited, but they get away with calling it that. What it really says is unlimited to a point. Bit of an oxymoron.

I'll second Bill's OmniLynx unlimited data plan suggestion. We've been using the provided Novatel 6620L Jetpack for the last 5 days, and the speeds are much better than our older Verizon direct 4620LE Jetpack. I put our 20GB/month direct data plan on suspension for 90 days while we evaluate the OmniLynx plan. I can renew the suspension for another 90 days if needed. That should give us enough time to ensure the viability of the OmniLynx program.

Most places I camp there is no Wi-Fi
I stay at an RV resort . Once OR twice a year

State parks beaches national forests, don't offer Wi-Fi
Our minimal home base, no Wi-Fi
My cell phone has been my internet for many years
I now also have the jetpack on Verizon from the Huntsville school system

I can spend hours doing email and web surfing and only use a 3gig a month

But start watching funny dog videos on YouTube OR Facebook etc..
And it shoots up, watch a Netflix movie and that's it, it's all gone and I would be on overage use/charges

But I have an old unlimited plan on my phone, and a new unlimited plan with the jetpack
New unlimited plans are almost non_existent in the consumer market

If you Never watch video Netflix YouTube Amazon our HuLu at home then you won't miss it when you go on the road,
But if you do..then you want as much data as you can get..You want unlimited
For those that only go out for weekend our short trips, yeah you can do without no problem, but being on the road and staying connected the same as home is not a make do weekend trip
Everybody's circumstances are different
And the OP might be working on his 8 month trip, just like many full timers work while traveling, being a telecommuter means data is a must have

No we aren't.

We are trying to point out to the OP that it is HIGHLY unlikely the he really NEEDS an "unlimited" plan, regardless of what that really means.

Unless you are really addicted to "the web", the standard allowance on a budget priced cell plan might be plenty.

I think I could get by on 2 G a month easily.
NOW....if my wife is using it too.....that might double.

We have ATT for phone. ATT Sierra module & Verizon Jetpack. Advantage with ATT is what you don't use you keep for the next month on Sierra module. There are places where Verizon works and ATT doesn't. Also where ATT works and Verizon doesn't. If Verizon is working and not ATT I turn on the Verizon jet pack and use my ATT phone through Verizon. Works for us to always have service no matter where we are.

We use a Verizon USB aircard. We use it for bills, emails and some photos to family.
Plenty of capacity to keep up on Facebook for the boss and RV.net for me.
