You already know about batteries adv on eBay, nothing new there
How many hours reading do to get from a fully charged nook
And don't blame the Chinese for the nook design
Everything tablet style is one power button and maybe volume buttons
You can read books on an Android tablet using ereader software, I use "AlReader" and "ePub" my current RCA tablet cost me $99 on Amazon, has my 2 readers plus Kindle reader, and a key board that doubles as a stand
I do my reading and a lot of my internet from this device, I get about 10 hrs reading
4~5 hours web time
It does weigh more than the nook, especially with the keyboard attached, but it snaps right off, magnetic
Oh and since it uses micro sd memory card, I can load books via pc to card if I wish
Most tablets can connect directly to pc via USB for data file transfer, for some reason, this one does not, but between Wi-Fi and memory card
That has not been a problem
quick test with Alreader
with tablet in notebook mode keyboard attached
using up and down arrow keys pages back and forward
left and right arrows scroll one line
I always swipe for pages, so I never tested this before
The volume buttons change pages
Volume down is page forward, volume up is page backward
Does the nook do audio books, does it have volume buttons
Might think about a tablet with good easy to use volume buttons
The vol buttons on this one are on the back not the side
The on screen volume buttons also flip pages when in ereader mode
Simple tap with one finger flips page
