Direct TV - Pro's/Con's RV Mobile vs Home 'second room'

I have surf-education thru many threads on Dish/Direct/Traveler/Dome's/RF Mogul, etc., etc.

We're getting ready to have the RF Mogul installed.

I've got myself a bit confused on Direct TV. As I understand it, I can go one of two ways:

1) Open an Direct Mobile account

2) Open an Direct Home Account, and get a second box that can we'd locate in the RV.

With a Mobile account, I believe I can change DNS location between East or West coast feeds.

If that is correct about changing DNS locations. What other Pro's and Con's should I consider?

One note, we will not be able to cancel our TWC account - as other family members are insisting it remains. (That does not mean I could not cancel our one DVR Box, and replace this main TV area with Direct TV.)

OK - If this is a bad question, I apologize - just truing to sort things out...

And any input on which 'DVR Box' equipment to go with, to maximize HD recording, would be appreciated. We will only have one TV up and running in the RV.

Best to all, and TIA,
Smitty

  • We kept our household unit. We just tell them a new address and they move the local feeds (make sure not to change the billing address). Of course if someone were staying at the house, they wouldn't get the local channels.

I presume if you are getting the household plan, you need cable for your house anyway and it would take on this role. In that case it is far cheaper to pay $5 for an extra receiver.

The day we can get reliable unlimited data plan just fast enough to stream, the cable and satilite will be cut.

You CANNOT get DNS if you have a HOME account. DNS costs an extra $15/mo and you have to choose east or west coast feeds. We currently have the west coast feed but were going to be on the east coast this past year. Unfortunately, DirecTV told us we'd have to terminate our account with the west coast feed and reup a new account with the east coast feed. Seems like they could simply flip a switch. You will have to fill out an affidavit attesting to the fact that you are a mobile customer and do not have service in a stix n brix. Federal regulations...

That said, you can still move a box from your stix n brix into your coach, but you won't have DNS without a mobile account......Dennis

I would get a mobile account so you can change your location and then get the local channels. I would recommend the Direct TiVo DVR (HR22-100) that gets software updates from the sat unlike most receivers that use a phone connection to update the software. I would claim FT status and take the box inside when home.
