Direct Tv Auto Sat Ant & Rcvr recomendations?

Hello,
My wife and I are looking for a simple to setup automatic antenna and receiver. As we travel in our 5th wheel. There are a bunch of antenna and receivers out there, all claiming they are the best.
We want a pod style antenna.
We're trying to keep this under $700 for the auto antenna and receiver.
Any links to recommended packages would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Don

  • From what you said you need a portable unit.

Pros, you can move it anywhere that you have a clear view of the sky.

Cons, if you what DirectTV and HD you need a expensive roof top unit.

  • Several of my friends use the Dish Tailgater and a month by month plan.
    Might check that out.

How do the genies link to the automatic antenna?
We have a 5 year old wired genie system at our home.
I thought you had to purchase a specific receiver to work with the auto ant.
I see I'm missing something here.
    Thanks, Don

The main Genie box still must be connected to the antenna via RG6 coax cable. Wireless simply means that the genie slaves are connected wirelessly via a video bridge. They are then connected to nearby 120VAC and a HDMI cable to the TV.
A ground antenna system is honestly yoir best choice if you camp in the trees. We have both and it is probably a 50/50 mix of automatic roof or manual ground antenna. The manual ground is not really hard, but the first few times can be frustrating. There are smart phone apps to help, there are also meters like the Directv installers use that will get you a signal in a couple of minutes. Nothing is cheap, but the ground based dish is cheapest if you want Ditectv HD
  • Thank you, what is CW?

Never mind, I figure out you're talking about Camping World.
  • We bought a King Relay and mounted it on roof of our 5ver. It is supposed to receive Dish, Directv and Bell of Canada. We have Dish pay as you go in 5ver and Directv in the house so I can't tell you if it really will work. Directv is SD and Dish is HD so we went Dish. The sat ant was about $600 at amazon and 2 vip211z receivers were $79 each at CW.

  • For Directv and if you want HD, then your only choice is a 1500 dollar Winegard Travler SK-SWM. For around 200 dollars you can get a ground based dish/tripod setup. Your choice. For a receiver, we take our Genie and a wireless slave with us from home. 5 channel HD DVR allows us to record everthing we want.
BTW, if your not a full timer this is probably the cheapest setup.
