Direc TV provides movies via one of two paths. .And as a person who knows how to cheat big time I can use them both if I wish.
One is "over the air" as it were,, That is your Satellite Receiver picks up the movies direct from the big bird up in the sky, This is how Satellite TV works.
The other is Via Land-line.. DirecTV is now part of AT&T (political comments witheald) and rumor has it they are going to phase out Satellite service, I stress Rumor. AT&T is trying to provide service via fiber optic or failing that coax (wire) to all their customers and drop the Sat.. I do admit, for the majority of their clients, This makes great sense since Fiber optic cable is more or less immune to rain and snow and such (less the wire breaks or we get a BANG-NO POWER again (The bang was a car hitting the utility pole, carries both cable TV, Phone and Electric to the park.. This really happened last summer,Minor injuries, Treated and relased, 4.5 hours w/o power, many more without coms).
Modern DirecTV receivers also use the internet and/or phone lines.
The use is as follows
1: They track your viewing habits (Illegal without permission by the way)
2: They can deliver special requests from the receiver back to the HOST (DirecTV)
3: They can stream video via internet (not a good thing to do in an RV park less you bring your own bandwidth)
The catch.. Not all receivers can use park Wi-Fi, Many need a Cat-5 cable
in my motor home I convert Wi-Fi to Cat-5, then deliver to assorted computers including this one, the one, via additional cat-5 cables, The one beside me gets' it's Internet the Wi-Fi way from one of my two routers.
I did say I have the ability to cheat
That said. I watch mostly OTA TV courtesy of my Batwing.
