Direct TV satellite

Newspaper this morning reported the Direct TV satellite may be failing. Possible move to "GRAVEYARD" location. However, they say they won't dump fuel. Problems with batteries.

DISH uses the same satellite, so this might be problems all over the country if you depend upon this for your TV away from home.

    No. Built by Boeing.
When launched it had a planned life of 12 years. It is now nearly 15 years old. I sure hope I exceed my expiration date by 25%.

  • And it's the Spaceway 1 103 bird build by - are you ready for this? - Boeing.
  • Reported battery failure in December and they requested to move it before the solar panels enter darkness and lose power in Feb when there is a concern the batteries could explode. It's also past it's lifetime. Apparently there is adequate fuel left for the move.

One report said the 103 served AK. Another said they would move in a replacement.

Seems to be a non issue for users except perhaps a short temporary bump in service.
