DirecTV - Call every time to turn on?

Hello RVers!

I have a question for those of you that use DirecTV on your RV especially if you are using a Winegard HD auto steer antenna system. Currently we have Dish on our truck and since it is parked indoors we have the equipment stowed and turned off. Each time we want to use our TVs we have to call Dish and get the set top receivers turned back on.

Those of you on DirecTV do you have to do this as well? What is the process like?

For a little background: The equipment that this is installed on is not an RV it is a Mobile Emergency Operations Center and although we pay for service continually 365 days a year it often times sits unused. We have considered dropping a feed from a building roof mounted dish down inside and connecting but then we have to leave racks of equipment turned on too.

I look forward to hearing from you!

  • I take the Direct TV box from home when we travel. Never have to turn on/off, always ready to go.
  • If I am gone for an extended period, much much longer than the 10 days previously posted, when I come home the DircTV receivers are inactive. I call the toll free number which recognizes my phone number and therefore my account, and I merely say the message number shown on the screen. The automated system reactivates the receiver almost immediately. The whole process takes about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • You need to leave the dish connected so the reciever talks to DirectTV or it will shut off.
  • If you have another dish at home for your home TVs, just keep your RV receiver connected to it while at home....Then it never sits long enough to get deactivated.
  • It shuts off at 10 days, so they say. I have a direct link on the iPhone that takes me straight to the reset page. I can have the receiver running usually in less than 90 seconds
  • I have to reactivate if not used for a long time.
I just dial there number on the cell phone. In a few minutes back up and running.
    No big deal.
I used to have an extra line from the dish I kept hooked up to the MH.
Than I did not have to reactivate system. Now with 2 DVR in house. No extra cable.
    DirecTv.
  • x2 -- above already covers what I was going to say.
  • Directv calls this 'reactivate' on their website. The only time I'd call is if I were in an area with no internet.

You can also go on-line and turn your DIRECTV "ON" as well All you need is your account number with password and which TV you are wanting to "RESET"

We had to do this just about everytime we disconnected our SAT RCVR and moved to a new location. DirecTv did not mind for us calling but after I discovered I could "RESET" it myself I started doing that.

It happened so many time I made sure I always had the account number with me. I pasted this info on each SAT RCVR.

  • I just go online and re-activate the receivers. I also reset them fro the actual receiver.
