DIRECTV DNS service

For those of you who have Distant Network Service (DNS) with Directv have you had a problem with changing from New York service to Los Angeles service or vice versa when changing time zones? We are heading west and wanted to change from NY to LA but was told by a Directv rep that it can't be done. We were told when we bought the service that we could change. Anybody else had this problem?

Thanks
  • You cannot (are not supposed to be able) to change between E and W. If your RV is registered in the E or C time zone then you should get the NY feed. If your RV is registered in the M or P time zone you should get the LA feed.
The information that you cannot change is correct BUT if you can find the right person you might be able to get both E and W (like those of us who are grandfathered into that service) for an additional $5/month. You just have to call, call again, ask for a supervisor, call again, ask for a supervisor and find someone who will set you up with both coasts.
I pay $20/month and get both E and W coast feeds. There is no reason that you could not either other than the stupid folks put in your way to stop you!
  • We also thought that but found that wasn't the case. The info on their website made us think that but when we went back and read it again we understood. You get east or west based on your billing address not your location in the RV.
  • It's worth the effort (and the extra $5) to get both. You CAN get both but you have to get to the right person.

I agree. We record everything and sometimes there is bad weather that wipes out the signal so having the other coast feed is handy due to time shift.

But then, Bill, I still haven't fixed my Travler so my signal is marginal. Weather better now so will take it on and report results.
  • I have both E and W feeds. Long time customer and never complain about service because I also get local stations when at my winter location. If it ain't broke don't complain. Sorry that you don't get both feeds. It anymore is the luck of the draw. I changed over to Genie service and nothing changed as far as E - W. I love I can record 5 channels and have a second TV in the RV door outside and can control recordings from both remotes.
When I changed to Genie called them up and said since I am a long time subscriber how can I get it. They said no problem. They came out to my winter house and gave me an extra LNB and power supply for my portable dish that I can use in the RV
