When I have a DirecTV technical issue I usually go to Walmart and ask advice of the first non English speaking person I find. I have found the answers to be on par with calling DirecTV and the hold time much less.
Oh,We can make it happen. I bugged Hughsnet over a firmware issue that required the RX to be rebooted once a day. It took me 6 months but I got it done.
I am retired and have lots of time to work up the food chain. Sometimes you have to go to the top and work down. I had a gamecam that was defective and worked on that one for 9 months. Even letters to the president went unanswered, so I found the holding company and layed out my experience to the board of directors. I swear that within a few hours of it hitting his desk I got a call from the original company asking what they could do to make things all better.....I got the VIP treatment for about a month asking if all was well.
Hughsnet is DIFFERENT, you are talking a INTERNET provider there.
DTV is a DIFFERENT ANIMAL.
DTV MUST abide by the CONTRACTS they have signed which INVOLVES the MPAA.
MPAA has been key in making it more difficult to record ANY content that they have no control of it's use. It is the reason as to why you do not see ANY standalone HD recorders in the USA (you can buy HD recorders for other countries). It is the reason as to why you can not find ANY HD video recorders which can record any content via HDMI.
They are the reason as to why any tuner cards for PCs ENCRYPT the HD video files on your PC (you can not make copies or transfer these recordings to another PC).
Unless you are a multimillionaire with extremely deep pockets and can buy out the MPAA you most likely will get no where.
Personally, instead of spending the time you have on a worthless cause perhaps it is better to grab a few DVDs and call it good.
