The work around most likely is to keep power on the receiver once it has acquired a sat.
The major problem with that solution is that you will be driving around with the hard drive spinning ( I assume) which makes the hard drive much more susceptible to damage. When the DVR is powered down the heads for the hard drive are "parked" so they don't get damaged. I don't know if the hard drive spins down when you are not actually watching a program, but I know it would fire up if you had a scheduled program to record while you were driving. I know because I have damaged a couple of drives doing this. When you get to be 60 you learn a few things along the way. My college degrees in electronics and computer scuence helped me to understand why it happened but not til after the second one, so I must be a slow learner. ;-)
