As bad as I hate to admit it, it seems the DirecTV person I talked to a few days ago was right. In a previous post I confirmed what others have said about the automatic reboot of our systems when not connected to a satellite signal. My HR24 did this reboot every six minutes when viewing the signal strength screen. This is of major concern to me since I fulltime RV and have to aim my dish a lot. I'm pretty good at it and most of the time I do it in a minute or two. But have this six minute deadline was not to my liking. I use a baby monitor so I can see the DirecTV signal strength screen when outside (much cheaper than a meter that works with SWM).
The DirecTV person told me my problem was my power inserter. I told her the PI had a green light and I simply didn't believe her, but if she wanted to send me a free one, go ahead. It arrived yesterday and I installed it immediately, but just now ran the test. I wanted the PI to come up to operating temperature. I have been looking at the signal strength screen now for 24 minutes with the coax from the dish completely unhooked and no reset. So I guess the PI must have been the problem. My original PI was the first generation and this new one is revision #3. The output specs are the same on both. I have no clue how the PI could have been the problem, but I guess I was wrong and DirecTV was right.
I don't know about watching prerecorded programs with no signal since I haven't tested that yet since aiming the dish is my first priority.
