DirecTV DVR Software Update Mystery

I have two DVRS - both are H24/500s. The one in the living room loaded update Oxabf on 7/18 at 3:26 a.m. The one in the bedroom finally updated with Oxabf on 8/6 at 7:30 p.m. In between those two dates, the bedroom tv would attempt to do the update, fail and then reboot almost daily. It was very annoying to go back to bed and then have to wait 20 minutes for the DVR to reboot.

We have had both of these DVRs for months. We have been parked in the same place for the entire time between the first DVR updating and the second one updating. This is NOT the first time this has happened.

When the bedroom DVR is trying to update, the screen with show - downloading software - zero percent complete. Hangs there until it apparently times out and then reboots. Never moves off of zero percent. The only time it moves off zero percent is when I manually make it download an update by pressing 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 when the Hello screen is up. Then it SEEMS to update by counting up to 100 percent but it doesn't actually update.

Can you help me solve the mystery of why the second DVR will not update until it feels like it? Anything I can try the next time it happens?

There are often very minor differences between any two otherwise identical electronic devices,, DVR's often store software updates on their hard drives.. These have been known to miss a bit or two in translation and cause a fail and re-boot.

I have two vintage DVR's here and .. Well.. I've replaced an HD or two over the years (2 to be specific).
