Installation
Our S&B install went smoothly and took about 2 hours to change from the HR24 using a Slimline 5 dish to SWM for both the HR24 and HR44. Our coax was good and did not need to be replaced. He replaced all of our 7 year old compression coax connectors (PCT-DRS-6) and said that these connectors did not have a reliable connection to the coax shield. The multiswitch and LNBs were replaced with SWM splitter and LNB. He indicated that all LNBs were subject to weather deterioration and should be replaced within 5 years. He also indicated that due to customer demand DTV now supplies white coax. He also said that 99% of the recalls are due to faulty installations. In the Phoenix area DTV has replaced 6 of the 8 installation vendors with DTV trained installers.
He said the HR44 and C41 are very reliable and when asked about the Video Bridge and C41W wireless client he said that all this equipment has a strong WiFi signal and must be 4’ or more from any other WiFi equipment to prevent interference. This includes home WiFi equipment and cell phones with WiFi. He recognized our WiFi enabled Blue Ray player under the main TV and said the Video Bridge would need to be placed in the cabinet above the TV. Placement of this equipment in a RV could be more constrained because of the smaller area.
Based on this input installation of the Video Bridge and the CW41W can be considered for RV (or elsewhere) installation IF there is no WiFi interference and if additional TV's are desired.
I actually find this hard to believe since the HR44 itself has a built-in wifi and the bridge is likely to be installed near it. Furthermore, the standard sales material from DirecTV says "a Wifi adapter {will neither} help or interfere" with the Bridge. Don't believe everything installers tell you; many have limited knowledge when they get into new territory such as wifi.
