Apparently DirecTV has two addresses for your account. One is the billing address, and the other is the service address.
I've been told that some people (snowbirds usually) call DirecTV and ask that they change the service address, in which case they will authorize your receiver to pick up the local channels at your new address.
I've never done that, because we prefer to pick up the local channels over the air with our rooftop batwing antenna. There are almost always more channels available over the air than are carried by DirecTV.
Also, on several occasions, we've been in a Tornado watch/warning area, and the local over the air channels give detailed storm danger information even though the heavy storm has blocked out the satellite signals - which means that even if we had changed the DirecTV locals, we wouldn't be getting the important local storm information!
