If I remember right, when we do get our RV, we can take the HDTV receiver with us in the MH, and be able to watch TV through that.First question: If we have multiple TV's in the MH, do we also need to take extra receivers with us?Next: Do we have to have a dish like we have on the roof at home?Thanks bunches! No one rec. feeding through the Video selector box will feed both TV's. But both will carry same program.An old round dual LNB will work. But NO HDTV.You can run 2 cables from dish to REC. Than you can record while watching another program live, or record 2 programs at same time.I have the Wingard Traveler on our MH.

When I was doing this back before the NATIONAL BROADCAST TV channels went DIGITAL I brought along a portable DirecTV dish that had two output ports on it. I always sit this on the bed of my truck so it would remind me to put it away when we left the area for things...I ran RG cable from the two ports- one going to the living room area HDTV and the other RG cable going to the bedroom area HDTV. In one of the RG legs I used the SAT LOCATION METER like this one shown to find the DIRECTV SAT Signal.In each location I hooked up the RG cable to the SAT RCVR ANT port I brought with me from home. I then hooked up the VIDEO OUT from each SAT RCVR to the VIDEO INPUT on the HDTVs. Don't forget to bring along your SAT TV ACCOUNT info and 800 phone number with you. Seems like everytime I disconnected my SAT RCVRS from the house I would have to get DIRECTV to turn them back on for me. This is all legal to do moving your SAT TV equipment between the house and the RV so don't worry about that. You will however lose your local TV channels when you get outside your zip code area so be aware of that. Larn how to pick up the local station off your BATWING OTA antenna to watch the national broadcast channels on your trips.This worked out pretty good picking up the standard SAT TV programs but I was always afraid the portable SAT DISH was going to grow feet and wander off on me.When the NATL BROADCAST came out a few years back we quit bringing along the SAT TV stuff and just use our OTA BATWING antenna to pick up local HIGH DEF HDTV signals from the local towns now. They are all transmitted now in HDTV full screen high def TV mode - much better quality than standard SAT TV signals.Roy Ken

In our case we bring a second receiver if we plan to view on more than one tv. We did purchase the same Directv HD sat dish we have at home on Ebay and mounted it on a portable stand. There are automated roof-mounted dishes that are capable of delivering Directv HD content, but we didn't want to spend the nearly $2K for the installed system. We have been setting up the standard definition Directv round sat dish for many years anyway and found setting up the HD sat dish to be just as easy, plus we camp among the trees often and need to be able to move our sat dish around to get a signal through the tree cover. We carry 150' of coax although 50' usually is sufficient.We use bedroom HD receivers and since we use the same dish we have at home, pointing the dish is really all we have to do as there is no need to go through set-up routine on receiver. Obtaining a signal is not difficult once you master the routine, but if you have little experience there are some devices available at Camping World that can help. There are some videos on-line that can get you acquainted with some of the parameters involved.We never travel without our satellite dish as we can set it up usually in 10 minutes, less sometimes if there is open sky to the south and ground is level. Even when RV park provides cable or OTA is readily accessible, we still set-up satellite as nothing compares to what sat tv can provide. We have the routine down to an art and easily enjoy every channel we have at home, including locals if within NM, with very little effort or issue.

If you want HD then you need the exact same kind of antenna on your house. You will mount it to a tripod and point it to the satellite manually each time you move. If you don't move often this is no big deal.If you don't care about HD then you can buy a small portable dish like shown above (it has been replaced by the Winegard MP1), a small dish on a tripod or platform or any number of semi-automatic to automatic dome system that you either mount on the roof or set on the ground at each new location.

I finally got everything working. The dish is really easy to point using a cell phone app. The only difficulty I had (and it was minor) was guessing the right elevation when the MP-1 isn't perfectly level. It was just me being too lazy to level it but it also shows how important being level is.

If you have DirecTV at home, you can count on them screwing up your entire account by adding another, mobile receiver. After a couple hours on the phone with them and 3 different access cards I finally got my D12 SD receiver working.

Here's the secret: when you call them to let them know you need a card for another receiver (I got mine on eBay), do NOT follow the instructions that come with the new card. By using their automated card activation system it will link the new card to your existing receiver(s). Everything will seem okay at first, but within 24 hours your existing receiver will stop working and you'll have to reactivate it with the new card. To avoid this, call DirecTV when you get your new card, speak to a human and ask for their "card activation" unit. Make sure your card is in the new/used receiver and you're getting programming on channel 100. It's smooth sailing after that.

Thanks. I got an MP1 which has a base you fill with water or sand. I plan to tie it to the luggage rail up there too.

The roof is fine as long as trees don't block the signal. That is why people have 50, 75, 100 feet of cable, to find a hole in the trees.

Also, be sure that the wind does not blow the equipment off your roof. I saw a guy at a campground who had a Vuqube Flex on his roof. I asked how he kept it from blowing off, and he said it was velcroed down.

I know this thread is a bit old, but it's relevant to a question I have.

I see people have 50, 75 and sometimes 100 feet of cable for their portable dishes. Where are you putting these things? Can I just set it up on the roof (assuming I get LoS)?

I just picked up an MP1 and D12 receiver. I plan to set it up on the roof of my Allegro while I'm parked. Is this not a good strategy?

All the junk should be here before the weekend so I'll probably post back with lots of stupid questions.

The people here all have dish.

After about two hours, we finally heard a signal beep, and when it got to another 93% we gave it a go ... and we got it!!

I can't imagine how many times we will do this before we get it down ... especially since it will be months before we go out again.

Actually, your best bet is to drive around, find someone else who has an antenna set up, and ask for help. Tell them you are new at this. RVers love to help each other.

Bill, I am so sorry if I've screwed this up. :(

We are at our camp and did not have any luck. We set the elevation and the tilt from the numbers on the DTV setup screen.

That leaves the azimuth. When I used the DishAlign app it has us pointing the one way, but if I use the compass, it has us pointing the dish in a different direction. Hell, I was never a Boy Scout .... maybe I don't know how to use a compass. :/

We are going to try again tomorrow when we can see outside. If we can't get it, then we are going to walk around and see if we can find a fellow DTVer here that might be able to help.

dishpointer.com will tell you the tilt, someone may correct me if i am wrong but you may not need to change the tilt, see if you get a signal or at least a partial signal at the elevation and azimuth the DTV website told you

Thank you!!!! Now, where do I find the tilt number? I found the other two numbers on the DTV website, but they don't mention tilt.
