The SWM splitter has to be located "after" the Power Inserter. Then run coax to each receiver.

The SWM splitter can be located before or after the power inserter. If it is used before the power inserter you will see that the first port of the splitter is marked with a red dot and indicated DC Pass. This one port must be the one that is used in conjunction with the power inserter.

I had the power inserter after the splitter and when the power went off the system always defaulted back to the non-SWM dish and I had to go and change it back to the SWM dish. Put the inserter before the splitter and that wouldnt happen.
  • standard dtv install, puts the PI behind the first receiver, 5 of my friends have it setup that way. none have to reset dish types after a power outage and, outages happen frequently here
  • I have the splitter on the roof of the RV. One cable runs to the Genie and the second cable runs to the power inserter and loops out to connect to the H25. I have never had an issue with power loss. It's designed to work either way (that's why it's marked that way on the splitter) so what works best for you is best.
  • No one has mentioned that on the Slimline 3 SWM there are actually 8 signals coming from the dish. We have a DVR that only needs 1 cable since the DVR can select 2 of the signals. We use the splitter to get a signal to the bedroom TV and still have 5 signals left to use.
