Directv SWM

I have a Directv box which was connected to a 2 wire LNB which i have ib my camper. T changed out me home setup to a SWM and programed the box for SWM ay the house. Now I put it in the camper and I can not program it to recognize the 2 wire 18 inch round dish, it thinks it is on a swm system. I unplugged it, pressed the red button still thinks its a swm system
  • Menu, setup, and do the re set of the receiver by pressing the - minus key. You must tell the receiver what antenna it is connected to. The newer technology will default to the last known good settings when power is restored. BTW what receiver model do you have? The newer receivers are SWM only as I understand it.
  • My HR24 receiver (two tuner DVR) can use either SWM or the standard interface. Your new receiver may/may not be compatible.

But the receiver does not detect the dish type so you must go through setup and change the dish type and other parameters.

Here are my setup instructions for 3 different dish types. I no longer use the portable dish so the switch between my home slimline 5 and the MH SWM involves only the dish type change since both TVs are HDTV. The portable dish was used with the same receiver and a smaller SD TV.

Home – Slimline 5 Dish and HD Channels
    1. Install 2 B-Band Converters
    2. Turn on receiver wait for setup to complete (about 5 minutes).
    3. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-TV Ratio: Widescreen 16:9
    4. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings- Display -TV Resolutions: Check all resolutions.
    5. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings- Display – Video: On, Pillar Box, Dark Gray
    6. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-Preferences-Guide HD Channels: Hide SD duplicates.
    7. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings -Satellite-Repeat Satellite Setup: Dish setup: Option 4 – Slimline 5 02: Multiswitch Dual. To confirm: Menu-Setup-System Setup-Info & Test-More System Info and confirm dish type

MH – HD Dish – SWM Dish and HD Channels
    1. Do not install B-Band Converters
    2. Plug in 3 power cords. Turn on receiver wait for setup to complete (about 5 minutes).
    3. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-TV Ratio: Widescreen 16:9
    4. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings- Display -TV Resolutions: Check all resolutions.
    5. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings- Display – Video: On, Pillar Box, Dark Gray
    6. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-Preferences-Guide HD Channels: Hide SD duplicates.
    7. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings -Satellite-Repeat Satellite Setup: Dish setup: Option 17 Swimline-3S(SWM), 01: SWM, Dual. To confirm: Menu-Setup-System Setup-Info & Test-More System Info and confirm dish type

MH – Portable 18” Dish and SD Channels Only
    1. Do not install B-Band Converters
    2. Plug in 2 power cords. Turn on receiver wait for setup to complete (about 5 minutes)
    3. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Satellite-View Satellite Strength-Satellite 101
    4. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings- Display -TV Ratio: Standard 4:3
    5. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings- Display -TV Resolutions: Check 480i only
    6. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings- Display – Video: On, Pillar Box, Dark Gray
    7. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-Preferences-Guide HD Channels: Hide HD duplcates. Note: This takes a few minutes to change.
    8. The MH Portable dish will not record HD and will display ln not found for HD channels.
    9. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Satellite-Repeat Satellite Setup: Dish setup: Option 1 – 18” round dish 02: Multiswitch Dual. To confirm: Menu-Setup-System Setup-Info & Test-More System Info and confirm.
  • BTW In the MH the receiver is mounted vertically in the back of a cabinet since there was no good horizontal mounting location. I have a RF remote at home and one in the MH. So in the MH the receiver could have gone anywhere like even under the bed. Nice that you no longer have to point the remote at the receiver. Wish my TVs were RF!

What is the receiver model #. If it's an H25 or HR34/44 these require SWM. Any HD receiver H24 or lower can do both.
  • Rx is H24/100 did work on 18 inch dish until I changed it to SWM, now can't change back get error #775.

Did you use the setup steps I outlined above? I've made that dish switch a number of times with my HR24 and I continue to do so. SWM in the MH and 2 coax from slimline 5 at home. Also used the receiver with a 18" portable two coax dish.
  • Did you connect the SWM cable to turner 1? Did you use 2 B Band converters in the MH?
  • I have had B Band converters fail in our RV. So if you have a spare, you might swap them around too.
  • I just had the house converted to SWM with new receivers. I bought a new LNB and PI from the tech for the RV. I HIGHLY recommend having the house and RV exactly the same so you can use the boxes seamlessly between the two wo having to reconfigure them so you won't lose your mind.
  • First you have to tell the receiver that it is a Multiswitch, not SWM, then you can select the 18" round antenna.
