Good info, thanks everyone. The installer is coming out tomorrow. I'm familiar with the spot beams, but that's why I will want to get the distant networks. If you prove to Direct that you live in an RV and have no permanent physical address, they activate either NY or LA network beams, which cover the entire U.S. That way I'll have the networks wherever I go, and I won't have to call Direct to have them change the locals every time I move. Of course I can still pull in the locals on my rooftop if I want to get the local news. I believe my tripod has a 2" shaft on it, but even if it's smaller in diameter they make sleeves you can add on to bring the diameter up to 2". I'm looking forward to the new system, but not looking forward to learning all new channel numbers. :)
