DirecTV HD / Slimline for the RV

Call me slow but it took me an entire day to figure out to how to make this work with the RV. The sad thing is the only secret was to use all the parts that were sent when I ordered the satellite dish. The power inverter and the splitter were both needed to get a signal. Since I was only trying to get the living room TV connected, I didn't think that the splitter was necessary but apparently it is. So, to save someone else an entire day of frustration and swearing, I hope this helps someone else down the road.

That is whey we field techs often had to make a product really work. Sometimes it was "ready, fire, aim" for the engineers. There was no way for them to test all possibilities and once in the field there were thousands of techs versus a small group of engineers.

We had a tremendous feedback system to the engineers and they would literally stop the assembly line if we found an issue.

But often, the leading cause of difficulties was not finding the one sentence in a 240 page manual that held the answer. Much like a Monaco manual.

We used to say that reading the book would cause you to lose your amateur standing. Lots of fun in those days with leading edge technology coming out constantly.

  • The splitter should not be necessary if you only plan to use 1 satellite receiver. Assuming you are using a tripod mounted antenna with a SWM LNB then it should only require the coax running from the one and only output from the LNB to the Power Inserter and from the Power Inserter to the receiver.

  • Perhaps you didn't bother to read the instructions. :)

The PI (power inserter) and splitter is needed to power the LNB on the Slimline dish...assuming of course that's what you have.
