As I stated before. No I did not, nor should I need to. If out of the box it can not accurately take me to business and long (30 year old) established addresses then quality control does not exist.
Why should I have to hunt for a good internet connection while on the road to finish building their product.
I did have access to good wifi at one location and so started to do it only to be warned that I needed to go buy more memory in the way of a micro sd card. So I didn’t get it done. Again...disappointment!
So my point is.....new, out of the box, it should be able to accurately fine old addresses and have adequate memory.
I note that it could tell me if I was going the wrong way on a one way street in Lost Dutchman State Park. ??
Something your failing to grasp is the fact that Garmin, like other GPS manufacturers,is trying to get out of the equipment business and focus on other product lines. The stand alone GPS will soon be a relic of past times. Garmin and others are selling off old equipment inventory till it's gone and then switching to online apps to be used on tablets and smartphones. That's why your unit was out of date and lacked sufficient memory, it was old and outdated to begin with and they are not making anything new.
Huh? I just purchased a brand-new Garmin dezlCam 785-lmt. State of the art and now runs on an Android operating system so I can store reference files and manuals in the GPS. I also had to do the initial update. I don't understand the frustration of having to update a new unit. It's software driven and possibly had several updates since it was manufactured. This included map updates which can also affect accuracy. I also use a Garmin DriveAssist 50 in my antique car and it accurately navigated us on a 7200 mile trip through the eastern Canadian Maritime Provinces just this past August. And it has been replaced by a DriveAssist 51 so Garmin is most definitely still in the hardware business and they're bringing out new products frequently.
