There used to be 3 different kinds of Joeys -- Wired, Wireless, and Virtual. Only the Wireless Joey needs a WAP. The Wired Joey is networked to a Hopper using RG5 or RG59 coax. The Virtual Joey is no longer sold.
DISH is EOLing the wired Joey. The latest and what I got last week is the wifi Joey. I was not incorrect.Big Katuna wrote:

Hoppers (and Joeys) require an open-faced dish like a DISH 500 dual LNB, 1000, 1000+, 1000.2, or 1000.4.
