Dish for RV's

Well, we're about a month into 4 months of snow birding in Florida and thinking about getting Dish pay as you go or whatever it's called for RV's.

We were looking at the low end packages and were not seeing a lot that interests us. We're more into movies than anything else. Apparently a person can't just get HBO without one of their regular packages.

Anyone using the new Dish pay as you go for RV's? We've never used anything but over the air TV in our campers.

  • I have dish pay-as-you-go (PAYG), and I agree that you have to buy $100 worth of crappe programming to get the one or two channels you actually want.

So every time I pay my bill I ask myself if it is worth a hundred bucks for HBO/Showtime and one or two action sports channels that I actually watch. Every now and then the answer is "no" and I cancel the PAYG service and save a few hundred bucks.

I have the Tailgater and I've found that it works well even with a 150-feet of coax. This means I have a lot of options for finding service when there are trees blocking the sky. I've never read of anything like this with the Pathway, and this is why I prefer the Tailgater, even though it is a smaller antenna, etc.
  • X2 on the Winegard X2. Been using it for 2 years now - full timing.
  • We've used our Dish pay-as-you-go (Dish calls it the "Flex" plan) for several years. Since we now live in our coach all but 5 or 6 weeks a year though, we no longer drop the service between trips. We currently have the AT200 package, but no premiums like HBO, etc. When there's a special movie we'd really like to see, we either get it from the Dish on demand pay service, or pick it up on DVD at a Red Box location. The service works very well for us, and we use the Dish customer service online chat system to change our local channels as we move around.

If you're thinking of getting the VIP211 receiver and one of the automatic portable dishes, I suggest getting the Winegard Pathway X2. The ability to use either the Dish eastern or western arc satellites increases your aiming opportunities in more heavily treed locations significantly, making it well worth the extra dollars over the western arc only dishes.
