Dish internet 7mbps

Anyone using the dish bundle for home internet and TV service only? is the lowest level 7 mpbs DSL sufficient for regular service speeds for general browsing and u tube videos? considering dropping my Verizon jet pac and reducing data from 15 g's to 12g's as the dish is unlimited data. Anyone using this wifi set up? I think we can use this wifi to connect our android phone too when home. Am I missing anything? Any input is welcome. Not sure if I asked dish the right questions. We will keep our Verizon smart phones, drop the jet pac, lower data from 15 g to 12 and save enough on our Verizon account to have the dish unlimited DSL wifi installed with unlimited data to our current TV plan only. Sound reasonable? Advantage, near same cost, unlimited data while home (7 months of the year). Disadvantage, no phone line on the road for dish internet, 3g's less data for phones from Verizon. Gone over data plan a couple of times. TIA

    Dish Land line DSL for home use only, no data cap. Verizon smart phone 12g data plan, dropped Jet Pac and 3 gs. I think I got it covered. Wifi available many places while on the road, so exceeding my data will be a slimmer chance and no concerns when home. Thanks all for your input, I understand this better now. Saved a few bucks too.

    I've gotten along fine with 3-5 mbps for years, including streaming Netflix, so long as I wasn't trying to do much other stuff (like system updates) while streaming video. My nominal rate was 5 mbps, my data overage fallback was 3.

    The activity you describe can probably do pretty well at 250-500 kbps (continuous throughput), which is about the lower limit for comfortably streaming standard definition video.

    We have Sattelite internet through Dish and I can tell you this is not a portable system to use in an RV. We get 10GB of data per month at 12MBs. After we hit the data cap we get turned down to 300KBs. It takes my kids 3 days to go through the 10GB

    Are all of these assumptions based upon the fact that you will NOT be RVing? This is an RV forum so I am a bit confused about what it is you are looking for. Dish internet is NOT mobile (it's really Hughes or Exceed) so I just want to make sure everyone knows that this has nothing at all to do with RVing.

    Dish has a number of plans but this I can say... I'd be estatic with 7Mbps

    You will need a wifi router unless it is part of the deal. Then you can set the phone to use the wifi instead of the phone data. You might find you don't even need 12 mbytes for the months you are at home.

    Our DSL was upgraded to fiber optic so now we have 26 mbps download. 23 mbps using speedtest.net. Anyhow the speed is measured in bits per second and that is what everyone quotes for a connection speed. If you are using bytes per second then it will be 1/8 - 1/10 the speed (sorry, I don't know if they still use parity bits or not).

    Router included, exactly what I was hoping to hear concerning my phones and perhaps even reducing my Verizon to 10Gs. Thanks
