dish net eastern arc new dish

because of an intermittent problem at my stick house dish sent a service tech to check system,he determined problem was with the dish itself he went to his truck and returned with a new dish with only 2 lnbs ( dish being replaced was 1000.4 a 3 lnb eastern arc dish)when i questioned him he said this in the newest eastern arc dish a 1002,it just picks up sats 61.5 and 72.7 no more 77 which only carries latino channels, the new dish is very similar to the to the old dish 500 in size and construction, for the past 3 or 4 years i wondered why i needed sat 77 because when in mh i usually just aim at 72.7 and receive all my hd programing except locals which are on 61.5,just thought this might be helpful to those of you considering new dish for eastern arc the big advantage is the smaller size.
  • Before anyone gets mad at the other, you are both talking about different things and confused by each others assumptions. One is talking about the antennas themselves pointed only at the EA satellites (same elevation for each antenna) and the other is talking about using antennas to point to the EA or WA satellites (higher/lower elevations).
Both are correct, just not the same topic.

What "higher angle"? The birds at 61.5 and 72.7 are at the same elevation for either
    dish.

I'm not sure if your playing me but higher elevation refers to the angle the dish points. If your east of the mississippi, the dish will point at approximately a 45 degree angle for a eastern arc sat while looking at the 129 sat it appears low on the horizon. It makes it much easier to get correct aim. Also the multi satellite dishes really aren't larger, just wider so it can focus on multiple sats.

"Playing you"? How is that... This thread is about eastern arc reception with different sized reflectors and LNB's. The eastern arc sats at 61.5°, 72.7°, and 77° are at the same elevation for any dish pointed at them from the same location. From my current location, my 1000.4 "sees" the eastern arc sats at about 40° of elevation, and if I changed to my western arc LNBF, the western arc sats would be at about 22° in a different direction that's blocked here.

If the listings I found online are correct, the 1000.2 reflector is 24"x19", and the 1000.4 reflector is 27.8"x22.3". I verified the 1000.4 dimensions by measuring mine. Of course both reflectors are wider than tall to accommodate the multiple focal points of the multiple LNB's.

That smaller size reflector also means more chance of rain fade...

  • For home we have the new dish, with the new 2 LNB eastern arc, Works excellent. We get all channels, easier to aim and we have no problem with rain fade.

I think this is a 1000.2 with a EA Twin LNB.

Both the 1000.2 and 1000.4 now have Eastern Arc (EA) and Western Arc (WA) LNB arms.

    I'm sticking with my 1000.4 because I think it's better built than a 1000.2 and for me having all three EA sats (61.5, 72, & 77) is better than just 61.5 & 72 because . . .

    - There are stations on 77 other than just Latino (for example, local stations)
    - I find aiming 3 sats actually easier than just 2.

about rain fade the new dish shows about 8 to 10 points higher on signal, dish tech said thats what this dish generally does,, we will see.

Interesting... I can't find any online references to a new "1002" dish, just the older 1000.2 that predates the 1000.4, and has seen extensive use for the western arc birds.
