The Tailgater will have the same issues as any other DISH dish. It can only receive the locals that you are registered for or have called to have activated based on your current location. It uses all the same sats as any other DISH setup.
I don't know if this will help anyone, but we have a Tailgater and the 211k receiver. I finally discovered that the 211k has a TV tuner in it. The newer 211z (I think that's it) does not have a tuner, but you can buy an add-on for it. Anyway, now that I've found the tuner, I just tell the receiver to scan for locals when we are camped. It puts them right into the channel menu with the DISH channels. And for the major ones it also finds their guide info (programming and descriptions). It's very slick.
