One thing I see no one addressing here is the issue of distant locals. This is what Dish has to say, " Can I get distant locals while I travel?
No. DISH Network used to offer a distant locals package (sometimes called DNS) for qualified customers using a recreational vehicle (RV). DISH has decided to drop this service. The distant locals service used to offer programming from California and/or New York and covered the major networks: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and the national PBS station. Our recommendation now to receive local channel while travelling is to outfit your TV or qualified DISH receiver with an over the air (OTA) antenna to receive the distant locals."( http://www.satellitesolutions.com/dishnetwork/rv-satellite-dishnetwork-tv.asp ) According to Dish this is something they no longer offer. Granted the pay as you go $32.99 for basics seems like the ideal for an RVer, if you happen to want to watch some of your favorite major network offerings while on the road forget it.
Direct TV still offers this service if you fill out the appropriate paperwork. You will however have to sign a contract and you cannot mirror the coverage you may have at home with Direct. In other words you will have a separate account for your RV.
I wish I had known this before getting lured into Dish by all of the hype regarding their RV friendly service.
