Dish Tailgater Problems.

I got my Tailgater set up today. It is working Perfectly with one Exception. The Lower numbered Channels 2, 4,5 17, Etc. which also happenen to be my local Channels have very reduced Volume. I have the Remote turned all the Way up. The other Channels do not have this Problem. What do you think is the Cause? I may have to call Dish if the Problem persists.
  • Try running the channel scan feature in your TV menu & see if that helps.
  • Calling Dish would be your best move. Our local stations were low but not a problem being too low.
  • We've not noticed that problem with ANY channels. :) Let us know what you have to do to fix it...so we'll all know in the future if it happens to us.
  • I called dish after the rain storm here in the nw and after much discussion and following their instructions they finally told me I had to take it in to the repair shop to get it fixed. All I could get was total signal loss.
I remembered info on rv forums that the original cable was not the best. So I replaced the original cable with a new cable. Now it works just like new! So just because dish tells you what to do doesn't mean they know what they are doing! Just to let you know what happened to me. They never said anything about the cable, just take the receiver to the shop and they can fix it. $$$$$$$
  • I can't remember exactly but we had a similar issue - there is somewhere in the menu's something about automatic volume controls. This was causing a problem with our TV. Rig is covered for the winter so can't go look at the menu.

    Problem is not with Tailgater,
Problem is most likely not with Receiver
problem is with DISH NETWORK transmitter settings.

    CALL DISH.

Problem is not with anything but the coax. He fixed it.

    Ok technical stuff:

Dish signals are digital, they always have been, the receiver picks a carrier, (Transponder) like a FM radio tunes in a station then it transfers the signal to a device called a demodulator (in radios it may be called "Detector stage") (Note I have skipped a bunch of stages here getting it from the antenna to the Demod) this feeds it to a digital decoder/demodulator which separates out the audio and video and passes those signals on to the proper drivers for your TV.

Since the same Demodulators are used for ALL stations, They must decode say a 20 DB audio signal the same no matter what channel it is on.

Thus, the problem is at DISH's end since this is the only place where one (or more) channels can get their volume reduced.

One other thing though.. there is VOLUME and there is LOUDNESS, not the same thing.

I recall in the old days in Detroit I liked to listen to 105.1 WQRS, home of the best music (Classical) ever, music that has stood the test of time, not hear today and gone tomorrow.. Stuff like Fantasia on Greensleeves. Beethove, The Red Priest, Phillip Green. and more. Well, they did not use a compressor so it took a bit of effort to tune them in and you had to crank up the volume (Easier once radios went digital tuning).

Other stations had a dynamic range of as little as FOUR dB, but this station had a very wide dynamic range, Thus they were not as LOUD as the stations that had an OPTI-MOD with an elephant sitting on it.

On the other stations a Whisper was nearly as loud as a SHOUT, on WQRS a (whisper) was a (whisper) and a SHOUT was a SHOUT!!!

Your local stations may have gone for quality instead of LOUD.
