I never had an issue where I needed tech support with the Garmin.
What I was alluding to was the forced obsolescence of the Street Pilot brought about by Garmin's lack of continuing map updates. That's bullspit in my view. The Magellan has lifetime map upgrades, well worth the 69 bucks I paid for it.
