I finally ordered a King Tailgater for my living quarters horse trailer. I was wondering what precautions I should take, or if there are any?

I have an 8' length of cable and padlock that i bought when I first purchased tailgater but rarely use it. Not had any problems.

I generally do not worry much about it. I bought a plastic coated steel dog tie out cable from Home Depot and use it to lock my Tailgater to a tree, post, strut, etc. But I don't always use it. Depends a lot on where we are staying.

Mine is covered as Personal Property on my Homeowners (brick and mortar) Policy. Should it be stolen, I get a new one. I worry more about ants invading the electronics inside the shell. That happened last year in Florida but I caught it when I went to break down camp and move. Carefully removed the cover and used a compressor to blow out the nasty little critters. Now I spray a circle of pest control after setup. Seems to be working, no more ants.

I don't worry in controlled parks. But I cable it up in places that are free range to the general public.

My Winegard X2 has a nice attachment point for a chain or cable lock. So I bought about 35 ft of chain and two padlocks and use it every time. I fulltime and it has been in constant use for 3 years now. I just want to stop the thieves who drive by in a pickup looking for things they can easily grab.

Yes. I engraved my Drivers License Number on the bottom.
Giving some thought to painting stripes or flowers on the dish to make it mine. Not sure how that would affect the reception...

hook it up to a fence charger for keeping the cows inside the fence. it will light up there eyes.

a person did loose one at Night... in a state park campground .. last winter.. only one I know of.

We have been using our Tailgater for several years now. I don't take any special precautions other than snugging the coax cable onto it with a pair of pliers, just tight enough that you could not loosen it with your bare hands. Have never had a problem, and we camp in a great variety and types of campgrounds.

I worry about it. I put it in the car sometimes depending where we are staying.

I havent bought a chain or lock which I will do.

I thought about putting a Weber grill cover on it but people steal those too.

Another thought was to put some bells on it to discourage someone taking it.
