Does Using SmartPhone as Hotspot Ruin Battery?

I'm signing up for verizon smart phones and one of the big attractions was that I could use one of the smartphones as a hotspot and dump my verizon hotspot I have used for years --- would save me lots...

About the biggest reason for using a hotspot rather than your phone is that if you carry your phone with you, DW doesn't have any wifi. And that can be BAD!! AS we both have tablets now, next time I have to change plans and/or phones, we are going dumb phones and voice only. Use the mi-fi for data, and only pay for the months that we need it. At home, we have very good cable internet.
