That is a load of BS.
It will run the battery down fairly fast.
Just don't run the battery flat, then leave it plugged in the charger forever. Kind of like a RV deep-cycle battery.
And even if you have to get a new phone a little more often, you're likely still ahead, because you are not paying for the stand-alone hot spot.
I keep my Verizon data at 1 GB, and check it a couple of times a month. If I'm getting close to the cap, I go online and bump up the data package to avoid overages. Then go back to 1 GB the next month. You can change the plans up and down as often as you want.
