Does Using SmartPhone as Hotspot Ruin Battery?

I'm signing up for verizon smart phones and one of the big attractions was that I could use one of the smartphones as a hotspot and dump my verizon hotspot I have used for years --- would save me lots...

I've been told by several people that Batteries Plus can replace cell phone batteries - while some cell phone stores will tell you that you have to get a new phone - more money for them.
