Does Using SmartPhone as Hotspot Ruin Battery?

I'm signing up for verizon smart phones and one of the big attractions was that I could use one of the smartphones as a hotspot and dump my verizon hotspot I have used for years --- would save me lots...

No more so that anything else that runs down the battery. Including just not recharging it. Actually, letting the battery run very low periodically is good for it. Prevents memory setting in.
