Does Using SmartPhone as Hotspot Ruin Battery?

I'm signing up for verizon smart phones and one of the big attractions was that I could use one of the smartphones as a hotspot and dump my verizon hotspot I have used for years --- would save me lots...

I used my S5 as a hotspot for 7 months/year since I full time and this was my only source of internet (Verizon 25gb plan). I never had a problem. I now have a Note 5 and use it the same way. I do have wireless charging cradle that I put the phone in while using as a hot spot or actually most anytime I'm not actually using the phone. It keeps the battery charged and I have never noticed any excess heat issues.
