Dropbox... is it me?

I needed to send an 80 Meg file to a vendor for analysis and they sent me a Dropbox link. Knowing it was too big for email I had asked for an ftp link .

What I received was a link to Dropbox and when I clicked it I had to create an account. No big deal, it worked, trace file uploaded, problem solved.

But now I am in Dropbox spam hell. Even before the emails from which I have twice unsubscribed, I had to disable their really annoying task tray app from starting when I boot.

Is this just me or is Dropbox a bit offensive?

  • I recently sent several links to coworkers. One called me and said that it asked him to open a DB account. I had him scroll down to the bottom and it gives you the option to bypass the account setup and download the files.
  • I've never had anyone required to open a DropBox account in order to download a file from a DB link?

Have a 1TB enterprise account at work, and about 3G free personal account. Rarely receive any DropBox emails. Like 1-2 per year tops. Something doesn't sound right?

Apparently you don't need Dropbox but just installed it to share a file. Just uninstall it if the task tray app annoys you but I can't imagine how it could be annoying. It just sits there.

I use Dropbox every day (to share files among my devices) and have never found it annoying. But I do find it a very useful cloud storage product.

I have never gotten any spam emails from Dropbox.
  • It came with my new Windows 10 laptop and I've never activated it. Maybe I won't, now.
  • Hopw your file was not anything private or confidential. once you get Dropbox on your system, it is hard to get rid of. Its not just you.
