My DW and I both have readers and use them exclusively (and we read a lot). IMHO the brand of reader doesn't matter as much as getting one that has an e-Ink screen which can be read in the brightest sunlight. Lots of people buy color screens because they want their readers to double as tablets. That means you end up with an LCD screen that washes out in sunlight.
We happen to have Sony readers and are very satisfied with them, but if I were to buy one now I would look for the ones that have built-in LED lighting.
